Canary’s song echoes in the mine now A hollow beat responds from below, Beneath the granite clouds of ashes The wolves are feeding in the snow. They call this the face of progress Endless riches beneath the earth, Sparrow’s song is out of key now As the hammers pound against the dirt. The wounded dog sits by the fireplace Recovery is a full-time job, The world outside just falls apart now Canary still sings through the fog. Wolves they peer into the mineshaft Canary hidden in the dark, The hollow beat has disappeared now A violent wind erupts from the hearth.

Radio Tower 02:56
On every hour There's a radio tower Pushing signals way up Through the stratosphere But no one can hear them The voices just turn into dust. Miners used to dream of a place so serene They'd save up and move there someday The Radio voices spoke of an oasis Until the wind came and took it all away. The village ceased to function As weeds covered the junction And feral dogs took over the homes Wolves filled the stables Ivy choked the cables That flung to the shafts down below. Never again will the radio send The waves, they just bend Never again will the radio send The waves, they just bend Never again will the radio send It's come to an end.

Who becomes a canary, Who becomes a wounded dog, Who will rise up from the smoke and the wreckage And carry us out of the fog? Who shines the light on the hateful, And shows the broken how to mend, Who gives purpose to the lost and the aimless And finds a place to bring them in? Who becomes the canary, Who becomes the wounded dog, Who will rise up from the smoke and the wreckage And carry us up out of the fog?

Turn your eyes to the window And don't look away. Spent months with lingering thoughts now And they're coming home to stay. Nothing new in the mailbox Nothing new on the TV screen. Finding new ways to break out Finding new ways to be seen. Fires spread across the landscape Tin cans land on the moon. Endless oceans of conflict Endless moments, not a moment too soon.

about

This album is an homage to my favorite concept records and Ursula K. LeGuin. Herein you'll find a story of a town where dogs, birds, and miners coexist and partner to fend off wolves from the surrounding forest. When the miners abruptly disappear, the birds and dogs are left to fend for themselves as the wolves encircle the village and flood the streets.
